1 Bail Reform Act of 1966
Разрешил освобождение под залог [ bail] или поручительство обвиняемых в преступлениях, которые не караются смертной казнью или пожизненным заключением [capital crime]. Освобождение сопровождаться дополнительными условиями, например, запретом покидать населенный пункт, в котором совершено преступление. Закон также разрешил освобождать лиц, обвиняемых в караемых смертной казнью преступлениях в случаях, когда судья считает, что их пребывание на свободе до суда не представляет опасности для общества.
